Course Description

Quiet Practice: Breathwork with Yin This Quiet Practice introduces Breathwork (Pranayama) as the primary focus of the session. Pranayama is an integral part of yoga, and its importance is equal to that of physical postures. While breathing is one of the most natural actions we perform, modern lifestyles and habitual patterns often lead to shallow or inefficient breathing. Pranayama works with the breath to influence the flow of prana (life energy) within the body, which in turn affects us emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Through conscious breathing techniques, pranayama helps establish healthy breathing patterns and encourages slow, deep respiration, supporting a calm, balanced state of mind. Regular practice can help relieve stress and anxiety, promote relaxation, and support overall nervous system health. The session begins with 45-minutes of hip-opening Yin Yoga, using long-held, passive postures to gently release fascial tissue around the hips and create greater ease and mobility in the body. This prepares you to sit comfortably for the 30-minute Deep Relaxation pranayama practice that follows. Pranayama technique includes Three-Part Breath, Extended Exhalation, Extended Breath Retention, Releasing Breath, and Alternate Nostril Breathing. Level: Intermediate (requires long seated position and breath retention. Breath retention is unsuitable for high blood pressure and heart problems.)
